‘Vintage Bheem’ for Mother’s Day Friday, May 6 2011
TRINIDAD NEWSDAY - By SEETA PERSAD - Patrons can look forward to an evening of vintage songs as local award winning singer Anil Bheem takes to the stage to perform songs such as “Raat a Kali”, “Just Walk into my Life”, “Saare Zaamane”, and “Dil Ka Rishta”.
Known for singing some of the most romantic songs of the Bollywood film industry, Bheem is planning yet another tremendous show for his fans at the annual bmobile Mother’s Day event. The show, which will feature Canada’s Indian Orchestra will take place at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya tomorrow at 8 pm.
Canada’s Vikas Khanna and Jonita Gandhi are both making their second trip to this country to share the stage with the best locals acts. The two are resident singers with the Canadian Indian Orchestra led by TT’s own Ranjan Ramdass. The other stars for this event will include Digicel Rising Star, Neval Chaitlal, Narindra Raghubir and Sally Sagram.
This concert, produced by Rafi Mohammed, will provide non-stop entertainment as it encapsulates 18 years of Bheem’s illustrious singing career.
“The show is entitled ‘Vintage Bheem’ and that is precisely what will be demonstrated in music and song,” Mohammed said.
Bheem, who has been a radio announcer and entertainer for many years, is very much in demand for local and overseas concerts. He started with 103 FM in 1993 as a technical operator and soon he was calling in the tunes and taking over controls to deliver the best romantic and patriotic songs for his listening audience. He is the host of the afternoon programme, “Catch the Rhythms” and “Chutney Train”.
Before starting his own band, BRMZ, Bheem performed with many of the big bands in TT, including, JMC 3Veni, D Rampersad Indian Art Orchestra, Dil-E-Nadaan, Beena Sangeet and TTEC Guyatones. He started in music with his family’s band, Khazana, with his mother Premattee Bheem, who is also a well known local singer.
Bheem performs film songs, chutney, bhangra and a host of other types of Indian songs. Some of his original releases include “Honeymoon”, “No Chutney Again”, “Bahena Bahena”, “Chook Chook” and “Jana Jana”. He performs regularly in Miami, New York, Toronto and Guyana.
