TRINIDAD NEWSDAY - After a sell-out year in 2010, the UWI Fete the original all-inclusive, celebrates 21 years, on February 6 when the UWI family will journey from China, the 2010 theme, to India.
At UWI Fete 2011, guests will be welcomed to Bollywood. UWI Fete promises that “you can’t help but be entranced by Bollywood’s aromas, its sounds and its sights. It’s tasty, rhythmical and pulsating.”
Set on the lush UWI principal’s grounds in St Augustine, patrons can find a cool spot under a mango tree and take it easy all day if you like. Or guests can be up front and centre stage dancing to the music of four top bands presented on two stages. Whichever way there is sure to a great premium all- inclusive experience.
The day always starts with an array of fine foods. UWI Fete Bollywood will serve its guests authentic and local Indian food and gourmet delights with Arabic, Latino and Caribbean influences and origins.
Bollywood will feature some the world’s soca and chutney megastars including Ravi B and Karma, Raymond Ramnarine and his band Dil-E-Nadan. This year Kes the Band returns to UWI after a phenomenal year travelling the globe. Roy Cape All Stars, a UWI Fete essential ingredient, completes the star line up with their brand of world music that touches the soul and excites the heart. In 1991, through the initiative of then Campus Principal, Professor George Maxwell Richards the first UWI Fete was launched. It quickly became one of the cornerstones of the UWI Development and Endowment Fund. In 2010, to celebrate 20 years of awarding bursaries principally earned through the UWI Fete over the years, the fund distributed 200 bursaries valued at one million dollars.
