Anil Bheem joins Canada’s Vikas Khanna in concert Monday, April 25 2011
TRINIDAD NEWSDAY - By SEETA PERSAD - TT’s award winning singer, Anil Bheem will join forces with Canada’s Vikas Khanna in concert. This much anticipated event will take place at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya on May 7.
This Bollywood type concert, promoted by Rafi Mohammed, will also feature Canada’s Jonita Gandhi facing off against TT’s Sally Sagram and Digicel Rising Star Neval Chaitlal against Naredra Nari Raghubir. Music will be provided by the BMRZ orchestra and the Canadian National Indian Orchestra.
Bheem who has been delighting audiences with his strong yet melodious voice, will be performing many of the songs that are considered immortal hits from the Bollywood film industry. “I have chosen songs that will bring back memories, stir love in the heart and make you fall in love all over again,” Bheem said, listing “Yeh Jeewan Hai,” “Sarey Zamaney Pe,” and “Aye Me Tujhe Khabi” as some of the songs he will be doing.
Bheem, who has been a radio announcer and entertainer for many years in TT, is very much in demand for local and overseas concerts. He started with 103 FM in 1993 as a technical operator and soon he was calling in the tunes and taking over controls to deliver the best romantic and patriotic songs for his listening audience. He is the host of the afternoon programme, “Catch the Rhythms” and“Chutney Train.”
Before starting his own band, BRMZ, Bheem performed with many of the big bands in TT, including, JMC 3Veni, D Rampersad Indian Art Orchestra, Dil-E-Nadaan, Beena Sangeet and TTEC Guyatones. He started in music with his family’s band, Khazana, with his mother Premattee Bheem, who is also a well known local singer.
Bheem performs film songs, chutney, bhangra and a host of other types of Indian songs. Some of his original releases include “Honeymoon,” “No Chutney Again,” “Bahena Bahena,” “Chook Chook” and “Jana Jana.” He performs regularly in Miami, New York, Toronto and Guyana.
Khanna was born in Canada but lived for almost 18 years in India, where he completed his high school education. He returned to Canada to pursue his post-secondary education in Computer Science and currently works for IBM as an Account Development Represen-tative.
He is a classically-trained vocalist and gave his first performance when he was just seven years old. He was a part of his school band and modelled for Pepsi, Cosmopolitan, Liberty footwear and other popular brands in India. He also acted in a music video and has sung jingles for various companies in India, as well as voice-overs for movies and a Canadian cartoon programme.
He is very popular on the music scene among the South-Asian community in Toronto, and has also performed in the United States, Canada, England, Holland and India.
Gifted with a versatile vocal range, his music spans various genres – Bollywood Film Music (1940’s - 2009), Indian-Pop, Bhangra, Folk, Qawwali, Ghazals, Bhajans and Semi-Classical. He has shared the stage with popular Bollywood stars like Udit Narayan, Vinod Rathod, Shri Manna Dey, Sharda, Nitin Mukesh and Sumit Kumar.
