Rikki Jai dishes out chutney at the Square Thursday, February 24 2011
TRINIDAD GUARDIAN - Fans screamed with delight as Dil-E-Nadan frontman Raymond Ramnarine introduced this year’s Chutney Soca Monarch Rikki Jai (Samraj Jaimungal) to yesterday’s bmobile’s Soca in BSquare stage at Woodford Square. Jaimungal, who won the competition last Saturday, told the crowd he had wondered when bmobile would bring chutney to the square. He said he was happy he could have been part of yesterday’s event.
The bmobile-produced concert featured crossover chutney band Dil-E-Nadan and was opened by members of the soca group, the Millionaires Family.Dil-E-Nadan followed with a performance that included a variety of music genres and crowd pleasing performances of like Lord Kitchener’s soca classic Sugar Bum Bum and Taio Cruz’s 2010 hit Dynamite. Today will be bmobile’s last day of lunchtime concerts in Woodford Square for the Carnival season and will feature soca artistes Shurwayne Winchester, as well as Shal Marshall, Iwer George and Super Jigga TC.
