Massive crowd at Chutney Brass
Monday, March 7 2011

TRINIDAD GUARDIAN - Kevon Felmine - It was mammoth crowd at Guaracara Park last Saturday for the 2011 edition of Chutney Brass, with many flooding the park from as early as 6pm for an action packed night of chutney bacchanal. The much anticipated event saw 15 big bands performing. The band Karma featuring the Drinker, Ravi B, dealt a heavy blow to the other bands, who were expected to match Karma’s explosive performance. The energetic artiste, along with his sister Nisha B, performed some of the best chutney hits of the year. But the big band Dil E Nadan, was not to be left out of the bacchanal mix, and created madness with a flurry of chutney and soca hits, which saw people wining low to the ground.

Artie Butkoon and the Melobugz then showed that they could do battle with any band in the country, as they belted out powerful soca hits. The band rendered tunes from top soca artiste like Machel Montano, Destra Garcia, Benjai and others. The Hunter, a lone artiste on the night, performed fiercely as he hyped up the crowd with his humorous chutney soca hit, Yuh Tanty Man. Other heated performances were dealt by bands, Spread Over Crew and Anil Bheem, and the BMRZ. There was also music from D Rampersad Indiart Orchestra. The lovely Digicel girls were out in their numbers, giving out beach balls and bandanas to patrons. Chutney icon, Ramnarine Moonilal, was honoured with a lifetime award for dedication and commitment to the chutney art form. The award was presented by Attorney General Anand Ramlogan.
