TRINIDAD GUARDIAN - Kris V Persad, aka KI, one of the youngest finalist in this year’s National Chutney Soca Monarch contest, placed third in the final. It is said that “the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree,” and KI is proof of this; he is the son of veteran musician and JMC 3Triveni founder Veerendra Persad. Days after being selected as a runner-up in the fiercely contested final, KI asked T&T Guardian to convey his thanks and gratitude to all of his fans, sponsors, family, and friends for giving him the opportunity once again to place high in the Chutney Soca Monarch finals.
It’s been a mere 18 months since KI’s debut as a frontline singer and he’s already been a National Chutney Soca Monarch finalist on two occasions. The handsome, super talented 24-year-old artiste placed gleaned more than 10,000 votes via text to secure third berth in the final. Singing what many claims to be “the biggest Chutney Soca song for 2011,” No Rum Again, KI was beaten only by veteran Rikki Jai and defending monarch Ravi B. He also congratulated Rikki Jai and Ravi B, stating that congrats were also coming from his father and the entire 3Veni family.
From his entry to the stage, KI has become a household name in such a short time, being a cast member to many all-inclusive fetes, Chutney Soca, and soca fetes throughout two consecutive Carnival seasons. Now relaxing at home before venturing to even another fete, you can catch KI tomorrow at the Oh! concert, at The Anchorage, in Chaguaramas. He said the band will also be on the road bright and early on Monday morning for J’Ouvert celebrations in Tunapuna. On Carnival Tuesday, KI and JMC 3Veni will again be on the streets of Port-of-Spain, providing music for three-time Band of the Year Trini Revellers’ presentation of Tales of Merrie Olde England.
