Chutney and Tassa winner to receive $5,000 Wednesday, March 3 2011
TRINIDAD GUARDIAN - The Lutchman Boys Tassa Orchestra is vying for the $5,000 first prize in the tassa category.
The stage is set for Saturday’s Chutney and Tassa competition staged by the Chaguanas Carnival Committee at the Chaguanas Market Carpark. The semifinal rounds took place on February 26 at the Woodford Lodge Grounds, Caroni, with 28 chutney artistes and 15 tassa bands participating. In the end, 11 chutney singers and 11 tassa bands were chosen by the panel of judges. The top tassa and chutney singer would each receive $5,000, and those placing second and third would get $4,000 and $3,000, respectively.
