Anup Jalota delights in Central Sunday, March 27 2011
TRINIDAD GUARDIAN - By SHASTRI BOODAN - Anup Jalota belts out one of his songs at Centre Pointe Mall on Friday night.
Indian Singer Anup Jalota dished out a few lines of Rikki Jai’s White Oak and Water much to the delight of patrons who attended a concert on Friday night, at the Centre Pointe Mall, Chaguanas. The concert started with a performance by the bmobile Shiv Shakti Dancers, followed by local vocalist, Kaveesh Maharaj and Canadian singer Chalisa Ramkumar. Jalota was given a standing ovation when he arrived on the stage and opened with Jai Ganesh Deva. He also sang bhajans made popular by the legendary Hari Om Sharan, before pausing to sing a few lines from Rajinder Jeem Jeem, a remake of an Indian song done by chutney artiste, Adesh Samaroo and excerpts from Rikki Jai’s 2011 winning song White Oak and Water.
Jalopa is best known for his performances in the genres of bhajans and ghazals. Jalota was born in Nainital, Uttarakhand and educated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Some of his popular bhajans include: Aisi Lagi Lagan, Main Nahi Makhan Khayo, Rang De Chunariya, Aa Shaad Dey Maa, Chadariya Jhini Re Jhini and Bolo Bolo Hanuman. Jalota has recorded over 2,000 bhajans and even recorded the introductory track on a 1970s Sundar Popo LP.
