Chutney at NAPA
Aug 30, 2010

TRINIDAD EXPRESS - The chutney-soca artform can only go higher because Kamla Persad-Bissessar is Prime Minister.

This sentiment was expressed again and again in song by Raymond Ramnarine, lead singer of chutney-soca crossover band, Dil-E-Nadan, when the band performed at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) in Port of Spain on Sunday evening.

Ken Lalee, MC for the concert, dubbed "The Unforgettable", described the occasion as historic as it was the first time a chutney-soca band was performing on the NAPA stage. He thanked Persad-Bissessar, Minister of the Arts and Multiculturalism, Winston "Gypsy" Peters, and promoter Randy Glasgow for making the concert possible.

The concert was one of a series held at the weekend in celebration of the country's 48th anniversary of independence. "Master of the Arts – the Concert" was held last Thursday and Friday featuring David Rudder, Stalin, Boogsie Sharpe and SuperBlue.
