12 finalists battle for Pichakaaree title Thursday, March 17 2011
TRINIDAD EXPRESS - By Ariti Jankie South Bureau - The story of Phagwa, or Holi, will be re-enacted at the Hindu Prachar Kendra, Ragoonanan Road, Enterprise, tonight, as part to of the Phagwa celebration. It will be followed by Pichakaaree competitions on Sunday.
Founder of the Kendra, Sri Ravi Ji, said that stories will be told along with "ole talk", laughter and the burning of Holika in the celebration, which starts at 6.30 p.m. Dancers from India will also perform courtesy the High Commission of India.
Sunday is reserved for Pichakaaree.
In a media release, Ravi Ji described pichakaaree as "cornshuss lirix, no chupidnix, no alcoholix".
The battle for the pichakaaree title begins at 2.30 p.m.
Twelve finalists will appear in the following order:
Savitri Jagdeo - "No More Balisier"
Ernest Emmanuel - "Tribute to Kamla"
Lynn Khan-Mohammed - "Twenty Years of Phagwa"
Beesram Sewdat - "Daaru in the Chutney - It Smelling Bad"
