More Than 120 Artistes Compete for $2Million First Prize Sunday, January 30 2011
Southex Events - Although torrential rain fell throughout the main part of the night at the Samar Entertainment Centre, it did not damper the spirits of the artistes who started battling for the first ever 2 million dollar first prize in the 2011 NLCB Chutney Soca Monarch.
More than 120 artistes crossed the stage in what was without a doubt the largest ever cast for the preliminary stage of the competition.
Approximately 80 artistes were eliminated on Saturday night, while patrons and chutney fans voted for three artistes to secure a place among the 41 artistes that will compete at the Semi Final stage of the competition. Ravi B must compete at the second round of this competition to qualify for the Grand Finals scheduled for Skinner Park, San Fernando on Saturday 19th February.
A couple surprise eliminations from the prelims were past Chutney Soca Monarch, Kenneth Salick and last year’s third place winner, Moses Charles who failed to impress the judges at Samar.
15 artistes will go forward to the Grand Final with one person from the 15 being selected via the ‘Text Voting’ system.
Online and International text voting will be implemented from the Semi Final stage. This together with local text voting will decide the ‘BMobile Wild Card’. All artiste profiles and online voting will be available through www.chutneysocamonarch.com
The 41 names inclusive of Ravi B, the 2010 Chutney Soca Monarch, who must compete at Rienzi Complex on Saturday 5th February are as follows –
